Turkey's First Rainwater Harvesting Village is in Izmir

As part of the rainwater harvesting efforts within the Sponge City Izmir project, the requests of the residents of Karaburun Sarpıncık Village for rainwater tanks to collect rainwater have been taken into consideration. The project, developed and implemented by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Water Resources Research and Application Center, aims to raise awareness and inspire rainwater harvesting. The homes, gardens, and streets of Karaburun Sarpıncık village now feature rainwater tanks, and artistic figures reflecting the relationship between water and humans are painted on the walls of the village houses. These elements represent the conservation of water resources and a community acting in unity and solidarity to protect these resources.
